Pinewood Derby Rules

Pack #20 Pinewood Derby February 06, 2010

Construction of ALL entries MUST have begun AFTER last year’s races.

ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE

Following are the inspection points:

  • Car weight: 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final
  • Length of car: 7 inches
  • Width of car: 2 ¾ inches
  • 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels
  • 3/8” clearance underneath the body
  • The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired
  • The wheels supplied with the kit, or purchased at official BSA scout shop, must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels
  • The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited
  • Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible keeping to the maximum length, width, and weight specifications.
  • Only dry lubricants such as graphite or powdered Teflon "white lube" will be allowed for lubricating the wheels.

  Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.

One lubrication is allowed before the beginning of the first race.

If a car proceeds to the semi-finals and/or finals it may be re-lubricated by permission of owner and Performed by Track Chairman or his designee.

If a car leaves its lane, the track chairman may inspect the track. If a track fault is found, the track chairman may order the race to be rerun after the track is repaired.

If, during a race, no car reaches the finish line on the track, the car that went the farthest in its lane shall be declared as the heat winner.

1-3 Place Wolves (1st and 2nd move to Semi-Finals)

1-3 Place Weblos I (1st and 2nd move to Semi-Finals)

1-3 Place Weblos II (1st and 2nd move to Semi-Finals)

Wolves, bears, Weblos I, Weblos II overall:

1-3 Place Overall Winner (Tigers not included in these final races)
